TORNADO!!!

We traveled back to Nebraska again! We were planning on a fairly uneventful quick trip. We arrived in the Scottsbluff area around 4 pm. Daniel and Dalton decided they were not wanting to go swimming that night (go figure), so we checked into a cheaper hotel in Morrill (just to the west of Scottsbluff). The clouds to the north were very dark, very very dark. On the country radio station they would interrupt every once in a while to announce a tornado warning. We did not think much of it, since the locals were outside mowing their lawn and kids were playing in the yards. We looked at the Pike property, the owner emphasized the great crawl space. It was just a crawl space to us, but since she made such a big deal about it Russell climbed down in it and took a picture. We decided to go to the pizza place on the east side of Scottsbluff. We took our time, allowing the storm chasers from the University of Florida, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma State to pass with ease. We did not worry since the local did not. The radio would cut in every few minutes, and tell us again about the tornado warning. The last warning came, within a short two minutes the radio cut in and it was a TORNADO, get to your basements or center of your homes away from windows. We were in our car, not near a home. Russell pulled into a parking lot, we prayed, and parked the car close to the baseball stadium seating. The car rocked, rolled, shook, and absolutely scared us to death. The hail was about the size of golf balls. The tornado went right by the hotel we would have stayed at. The conclusion of the story is, several cows were killed being hit by baseball size hail, the windows were busted out of the bank, the garden center at K-mart was demolished, the power poles at Menards fell, the roof at the car dealership came off, and the trailer park had damage enough to condemn the entire park. We have come to the conclusion, the crawl space is very, very, very important!!!! But, we are safe with a few pictures and looking forward to our future move!

Hope Of America

Daniel was very surprised when he was awarded the Hope of America. We tried to keep it a secret. With a gentle reminder to Grandma, success was achieved. Everyone knew about it but him. We are all so proud of his efforts. At the awards assembly he also earned the Presidents Gold Award for Academics. We went to Maddox for dinner to celebrate!

May Excitement

Daniel and Dalton had their schools dance festival. Daniel danced to the country song titled "With You." He did a great job dancing. Dalton danced to YMCA. It was a hoot. Daniel also portrayed a viking with speaking parts. He did a great job!

With the rain and cloudy weather giving us time to spend as a family, we decided to purchase a new used camera off KSL.com. We met the people in SLC, and decided to have a little fun while we were there. We went to in & out burger for lunch and then to Kennecott Copper Mine. It has been a long time since Russell or I had been there so we took the boys to see the big hole in the ground. They all seemed to have a good time.

Soccer has been very successful this year. Daniel and Dalton were both on good teams. Hayden was a great support to both of them. The best cheerer on the sideline.

Now, we are ready to get the farming going. The beans are in the ground, safflower has been there for almost a month, and the corn just sits under the soil. We need some warm weather to help get the crops to grow.

Mother's Day Wheelbarrow

What a wonderful day. I was treated like royalty by my three sons. They started by making me a wonderful breakfast; pancakes from scratch with fresh sliced strawberries and whipped cream and of course the homemade hashbrowns. They worked real hard at getting the house cleaned before church, they did a splendid job. I was able to give the relief society lesson for a sick sister, but it was the lesson she gave last month, but I gave it anyway. The boys including Russell made a nice lunch. After that we headed to the park to spend time with the Mills family at the park.

Russell was kind enough to buy me a new fridge for mother's day. But the gift that surprised me the most was the wheelbarrow that was brought back from the dead. The boys knew I needed a wheelbarrow, and the one I had had seen better days. They tore the entire thing apart, made a new handle, painted it, and put it all back together with new bolts. I was amazed at how they could work so hard together and for me not to know what they were up too. I thought they were working on their fort north of the house. If you ask any of them, they will each tell you it was their idea!!!

Spring Break

We had a wonderful spring break. We traveled to Nebraska last Friday, and returned on Wednesday. I don't know how lucky we could have been to have all three boys read all the way there. Not so lucky on the way home from Mt. Rushmore!

Spring Break

What a fun trip to Nebraska and Mt. Rushmore. We could not believe that all three boys read for over 6 hours on the way to Nebraska. But, they did not read all the way home from Mt. Rushmore, I guess we could not be quite so lucky!!!
I finally figured it out, or should I say I had enough time to figure it out!

We're still trying to figure this out!

Yesterday, we decided that we would have a blog. This morning we came up with a good name, at least we think so! And so now the blogging begins.
